DENTACAD'S HISTORY   The DentaCAD concept was conceived in the fall of 1990. The birth of our company followed after many hours of research into the technical needs of the Dental Profession and Industry. Based on our knowledge how computer technology was being successfully utilized in many other professions and industries, our vision was to introduce this technology to meet the needs of the Dental Profession and Industry. We began by creating electronic database templates of typical dental equipment. These electronic templates used in conjunction with appropriate computer hardware, replaced plastic and paper templates used when manual drafting methods were used to create dental operatory and facility designs. Since no one dental equipment manufacturer makes all equipment needed in the dental profession, we established the first Dental Industry accepted DentaCAD Drafting Standards and Conventions. Adherence to these standards and conventions is imperative in the creation of typical dental equipment electronic databases to insure consistency of design. Since these electronic databases are extremely large and contain many thousands of items, there was a need to create an efficient method of storing and retrieving data. DentaCAD subsequently created our original accessing software, DentaCAD ET (Electronic Template). It is essentially an electronic filing cabinet for electronic databases. Utilization of DentaCAD ET and accessing electronic dental equipment databases requires AutoCAD Releases 12, 13, or 14. DentaCAD ET will only access technical electronic databases and it is supplied, free of charge, with every dental equipment electronic database we create. Typically, manufacturers supply their electronic databases free of charge to their authorized dealers and others who request them. DentaCAD does not supply or distribute any of our subscriber’s electronic databases to anyone. Following the success of the DentaCAD System© and our DentaCAD ET© software, we developed accessing software that interfaces with AutoCAD Lite software (priced approximately $3000 less than the their current Release) and stores and accesses vendor catalogue information as well as technical data. This software is identified as DentaCAD 2000©. In addition to facilitating the design process, this software provides a tremendous sales and marketing tool. Our most recent software, DentaCAD 2000/EDS© (Electronic Data System), adds yet another dimension to our software programs. DentaCAD 2000/EDS accesses both technical, catalogue, and costing data and provides a very efficient method of conveying costing and descriptive data from databases onto the EDS system. This facilitates the creation a variety of forms needed to create worksheets, proposals, purchase listings, etc. This greatly reduces the amount of time required for the sales presentation and ordering processes.
